Change The Way Your Drivers Think

When a transportation company hires new drivers most of their new employees will already be set in their ways. Holding educational seminars on defensive driving can help to improve drivers safety awareness, but for the most part experienced truckers will have their own ideas. Your truckers may be excellent employees that consistently make all of their deliveries on schedule, but all it takes is one accident to cause a catastrophe. While it is likely that your drivers will be in communication with each other while they are hauling loads, it may be difficult for you to report new developments, especially if they are on their CB radios. There are few different ways that you can approach driving safety, but ultimately you will need to change the way that the majority of your drivers view safe driving.

If the bulk of your truckers have been on the road for a decade or more they may think that safe driving tips are overkill. Just as when you first learned how to drive, you took the information that you deemed to be important and likely discarded what you considered to be merit-less. Although this type of thinking is not advised, many other drivers feel the same way. For instance, you know that you need to use your turn signal whenever you are going to change lanes, but if you are on the road by yourself you may not feel like you need to use it. These types of decisions are often the ones that lead to accidents, even if they do not occur frequently. You can encourage fleet safety by helping your drivers to understand that reckless decisions are the ones that most often lead to collisions. Fleet tracking software will help you to identify the drivers that take heed to your warnings as well to the ones that don’t.
